Tamil Nadu declares November 9 holiday for offices and schools

The state government announced the additional holiday to help people return to their homes after Diwali celebrations.

The Tamil Nadu government has announced a holiday on November 9 for all state government offices, public sector undertakings, and educational institutions, according to The Hawk.

This additional holiday follows Diwali, which falls on Sunday, November 8. The measure aims to assist students, teachers, and employees in travelling back to their hometowns after the festival.

To compensate for this break, the government has designated November 28, a Saturday, as a working day for the affected offices and institutions.

In Chennai, the Koyambedu vegetable market will also close on November 9. This decision was made by traders' associations during a meeting led by Integrated Federation of Market Associations president G.T. Rajasekaran.

The association stated that all vegetable shops will stay open until Diwali to allow for purchases. Normal operations at the market are expected to resume on Tuesday, November 10.
