Russian strikes leave 850,000 people without electricity in Ukraine

Attacks on energy infrastructure in the Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv regions have caused widespread power outages.

Russian strikes on energy infrastructure in Ukraine have left nearly 850,000 people without electricity in the Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv regions, according to Al Jazeera and Moneycontrol.

In the eastern Dnipropetrovsk region, more than 600,000 residents lost power following an overnight attack on an energy facility, the power company DTEK reported. Outages affected the city of Dnipro and the Pavlohrad, Samarivskyi, and Kamianske districts.

DTEK stated that engineers are working to fix the damaged facility, but ongoing attacks are making repair work difficult. In the northeastern Kharkiv region, a Russian drone hit an infrastructure facility in Zlatopil, leaving approximately 250,000 customers without power, said Zlatopil Mayor Mykola Baksheyev.

Baksheyev noted that no casualties have been reported and that while repairs are underway, the specific time for restoring electricity is currently unknown.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused Russia of increasing these attacks to exert pressure on Kyiv before trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, which are scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Russian Ministry of Defence stated on Telegram that its forces will continue striking Ukrainian fuel and energy infrastructure facilities that they claim are used to support the Ukrainian military.
