Explosions heard on Iran's Qeshm Island and Jask port

Iranian media reported blasts in southern coastal areas as the US military disabled a commercial vessel in the Gulf of Oman.

Multiple explosions were heard in southern Iran on Sunday, including at the port of Jask and on Qeshm Island, according to reports from Al Jazeera, The Tribune and ANI. Local media linked the sounds to activities occurring in the Strait of Hormuz.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy reported that two oil tankers struck sea mines near the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian state television stated the tankers had their navigation systems turned off and suffered severe damage after passing through an unsafe area.

In a separate incident, United States Central Command (CENTCOM) forces disabled the M/V Huda, a St. Kitts-flagged commercial cargo vessel, in the Gulf of Oman on November 7. CENTCOM stated the vessel was targeted with precision-guided munitions after the crew ignored warnings and attempted to breach a naval blockade against Iran.

The US military confirmed that aircraft targeted the stern of the ship to make it immobile. CENTCOM personnel had instructed the civilian crew to evacuate specific sections of the vessel to prevent loss of life.

According to Al Jazeera, citing the Tasnim news agency, two projectiles struck Qeshm Island on Friday night. US President Donald Trump described the strikes as minor, though Washington had not issued a formal announcement confirming attacks on Iranian territory.
