Dana White declines Trump offer to be White House press secretary
The UFC chief turned down the US President's proposal to lead the White House communications team.
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) chief Dana White has declined an offer from US President Donald Trump to serve as the White House press secretary, according to a report by the Times of India citing CNN.
Trump announced the proposal on Saturday via Truth Social, where he described White as a "violent Fighter and Warrior." The President also suggested that White bring six UFC fighters as assistants to help defend the administration against political opponents.
The fighters mentioned in the post include Islam Makhachev, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, Daniel Cormier, Amanda Nunes, and Kayla Harrison. While a White House aide indicated the President was joking, White House Communications Director Steven Cheung publicly backed the idea on X.
White, who was in London on Saturday, addressed the announcement while attending a boxing event. When asked about managing the role alongside his current responsibilities, White said, "Yeah, I got a lot of jobs already."
The White House has lacked a permanent press secretary since Karoline Leavitt departed the role in late August. Katie Zacharia held the position for five days before leaving.
White stated he planned to travel to Washington to meet the President at the White House on Monday, though he did not disclose details of his discussions with Trump.
