The Indian duo became the first all-Indian pair to reach a WTA Tour-level doubles final after defeating the second seeds on Saturday.
Vaishnavi Adkar and Rutuja Bhosale became the first all-Indian pair to reach a WTA Tour-level doubles final after defeating second seeds Weronika Falkowska of Poland and Alana Smith of the USA at the Chennai Open on Saturday. The Indian pair won the semifinal match 6-2, 2-6, 10-8, according to reports by The Bridge and The Hindu.
The Indian duo took the first set quickly but lost momentum in the second set. Adkar required a medical timeout for a left hip issue during the second set, which the pair overcame to win the deciding super tie-break. The victory makes them the first all-Indian combination to reach a final at the main WTA Tour level, according to The Bridge.
Rutuja Bhosale, 30, said it was an incredible feeling to reach the final on home soil with a partner she enjoys playing with. She added that the pair had no idea they were the first Indian pair to achieve this.
Vaishnavi Adkar, 21, said she was glad they could make the best of the opportunity to play a WTA 250 semifinal in front of a home crowd. She noted that the atmosphere was amazing.
Adkar and Bhosale will face Naïma Karamoko and Simona Waltert in the final on Sunday, November 8. The final is scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM IST and will be telecast on the Star Sports Network and streamed on the JioHotstar app, according to Times Now.
