The duo became the first all-Indian pair to reach a WTA Tour-level doubles final after defeating the second seeds on Saturday.
Vaishnavi Adkar and Rutuja Bhosale became the first all-Indian pair to reach a WTA Tour-level doubles final after defeating Weronika Falkowska and Alana Smith at the WTA 250 Chennai Open on Saturday. The Indian pair won the semifinal match 6-2, 2-6, 10-8, according to The Hindu and India Today.
The match saw the Indian duo take the first set before Falkowska and Smith fought back to win the second. During the second set, 21-year-old Adkar faced a left hip issue that required a medical timeout, which she said caused her energy to drop. The Indians eventually won the deciding super tie-break 10-8.
Rutuja Bhosale, 30, said it was an incredible feeling to reach the final on home soil with a partner she enjoys playing with. Bhosale noted she had been battling injuries and illness during the week. Adkar added that the pair reminded themselves to enjoy the moment and keep going for their shots during the tie-break.
In the women's singles, top-seeded Janice Tjen defeated Robin Montgomery 6-3, 6-4, while Magda Linette beat Anastasia Zakharova 2-6, 6-2, 6-3. Tjen will face Linette in the final.
Adkar and Bhosale will meet Naïma Karamoko and Simona Waltert in the doubles final on Sunday, November 8. The final is scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM IST.
