Utah millionaire built 300-acre doomsday compound to shelter 200 people
Entrepreneur Jayson Orvis has transformed his Bountiful property into a self-supporting sanctuary that also serves as a TV filming location.
Jayson Orvis, a 57-year-old entrepreneur, has spent over a decade transforming a 300-acre property in Bountiful, Utah, into a doomsday compound, according to a report from PEOPLE via the Times of India.
The compound is designed to shelter 200 people in the event of a civilisation-ending catastrophe. The site includes a complete armoury, a machine shop, greenhouses, a butchery, and a storeroom containing medical textbooks, portable radios, and leather-working tools.
The property features a food forest, a freshwater well, solar panels, and a stockpile of 110,000 pounds of grain. Orvis stated that his group could survive indefinitely on these supplies and what they can cultivate.
The location also serves as the set for the Angel Studios series 'Homestead: The Series', which recently returned for Season 2. Orvis is the author of the post-apocalyptic thriller 'Homestead'.
Orvis, who made a fortune after his credit repair business was acquired, said he wants to redefine preparedness. He noted that rather than an 'every man for themselves' approach, survival depends on people who bind together to form strong communities.
While the compound lacks a massive underground concrete bunker, Orvis said that relying on a fortified bunker is a 'weird prepper idea from the Cold War'.
