West Bengal Board suggests postponing Class 10 exams to March 2027

The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education proposed shifting the Madhyamik examinations due to teacher deployment for the upcoming Census exercise.

The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) has suggested deferring the annual Class 10 main examinations from February to March 2027, according to a Times Now report.

The board has sent a revised schedule to the state education department proposing to shift the exams from February 15-25 to March 2-16, 2027. This proposal comes because teachers conducting the exams may be deployed for the Census enumeration exercise.

Board president Laltu Das told PTI that the suggestion is a proposal and nothing has been finalised yet. He noted that the Census is scheduled to run from January 25 until February 28 next year.

The current unaltered schedule for the 2027 Madhyamik examinations begins on February 15 with first language subjects and concludes on February 25 with optional elective subjects. The exams are scheduled to run from 10:45 AM to 2 PM.

The revised date sheet has not yet received approval from the concerned department. If the state education department approves the change, the WBBSE will publish a new subject-wise examination calendar.
