Madhya Pradesh to introduce ancient Indian knowledge in third-year college courses

The Department of Higher Education plans to include traditional Indian knowledge systems in postgraduate syllabuses across various academic streams.

The Department of Higher Education (DHE) in Madhya Pradesh is preparing to launch third-year courses under the 'Bharatiya Gyan Parampara' initiative, according to the Free Press Journal.

This programme aims to integrate traditional Indian knowledge into higher education, with courses already being taught in the first and second years.

Department sources stated that postgraduate syllabuses will soon include chapters on ancient Indian knowledge systems. The first unit of every syllabus, spanning subjects such as mathematics, chemistry, geography, economics, and political science, will focus entirely on this topic.

A high-level committee led by Higher Education Minister Indar Singh Parmar is currently identifying relevant content. The state adopted the ancient Indian knowledge system under the National Education Policy during 2024-25.

Ram Vishvas Kushwaha of the Hindi Granth Academy said there are 21 main subjects and nine supplementary subjects under the initiative. He noted that the syllabus could include saints from different communities, such as Kabir and Raskhan.

The Hindi Granth Academy is currently printing books for the programme. To develop the courses, the department has engaged intellectuals, including professors and retired vice-chancellors, to provide suggestions.
