Tusshar Kapoor receives Rs 5 crore extortion threat from Bishnoi gang impersonator
Mumbai Police suspect the threatening call was a hoax after voice samples failed to match official records.
Bollywood actor Tusshar Kapoor was targeted by an extortionist demanding Rs 5 crore, according to reports from Deccan Herald, The Assam Tribune and Telangana Today. The caller identified himself as Harry Boxer, a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
The actor reported the incident to the Mumbai Police, who subsequently transferred the investigation to the Crime Branch and the Anti-Extortion Cell. The Crime Branch's technical team examined the audio recording of the threat and compared it against an official voice sample of Harry Boxer in their database.
Senior Mumbai Police officials stated that the voice in the recording did not match the official sample. This has led authorities to believe the call may be a hoax.
Police suspect an unidentified individual may have used the gang's name to intimidate the actor and demand money. Investigators are currently working to trace the person responsible for the call.
The authorities are attempting to determine if the incident was the work of a single individual or if an organised gang is involved. An investigation is ongoing.
