Three BSF personnel injured in Tripura border clash
A mob attacked Border Security Force personnel in Sepahijala district following the detention of an individual suspected of smuggling.
Three Border Security Force (BSF) personnel, including Company Commander Rohit, were injured during an attack by a mob in Tripura's Sepahijala district on Monday, according to reports by The Hawk and Mathrubhumi. The incident occurred near the Ashabari Border Outpost (BOP) in the Boxanagar area after personnel from the 49th Battalion detained a person identified as Hefzur Rahman on suspicion of smuggling.
The attackers reportedly blocked the Boxanagar-Rahimpur road, attacked a government vehicle with sticks and bamboo, and attempted to snatch service firearms. The Hindu reported that a local youth also sustained a leg fracture during the clash. The injured BSF personnel and the youth were shifted to Tripura Medical College and BRAM Hospital for treatment.
The Hindu stated that the clash took place during a road blockade at the Ashabari locality, where many women also joined the protest. Following the violence, a security contingent comprising armed police and Tripura State Rifles personnel was deployed to the scene to restore normalcy.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha condemned the assault, calling the attack on security personnel unacceptable and a matter of grave concern. He directed authorities to take swift and stringent action against those responsible to ensure justice is delivered.
Boxanagar Police have launched an investigation and filed two separate First Information Reports, though no arrests have been made so far, according to The Hindu. Police and BSF officials have also retrieved CCTV footage to assist with the inquiry.
