Maharashtra weather department issues rain alert for six districts until Wednesday

The warning for Kolhapur, Sindhudurg, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Washim and Yavatmal follows the intensification of Cyclone Murasu over the Bay of Bengal.

The weather department has issued a rain alert for six districts in Maharashtra, including Kolhapur, Sindhudurg, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Washim and Yavatmal, until Wednesday, according to Urban Acres.

The warning comes as Cyclone Murasu intensified over the Bay of Bengal on Monday. The system was expected to move northwest and cross the Andhra Pradesh coast near Nellore and Narsapur on Tuesday.

The alert covers districts across the western, eastern and central parts of the state. The weather department indicated that rainfall could affect roads, local travel and other infrastructure in these areas.

In Pune district, Indapur recorded 131 mm of rain in the last 24 hours, which was the highest total in the state. Baramati recorded 77.2 mm, while Shivajinagar recorded 41 mm and Pimpri-Chinchwad recorded 19 mm.

Rainfall activity in Maharashtra is being monitored in connection with the cyclone system as it continues to move northwest.
