Enforcement teams are checking vehicles and construction sites as the city's air quality fluctuates between very poor and hazardous ranges.
Delhi's air quality fluctuated between very poor and hazardous on Monday, with the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded between 242 and 428, according to reports by Moneycontrol and ANI.
The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) scale classifies an AQI between 301 and 400 as very poor and above 400 as severe. Rohini Sector 30 recorded an AQI of 405, while other areas like Alipur, Vivek Vihar, and Narela also reported very poor levels.
Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said enforcement teams are checking vehicles for Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC) compliance and inspecting construction sites. On November 1, 14,930 vehicles were checked, 566 PUCC challans were issued, and 300 sites were inspected, Sirsa stated.
The Delhi Traffic Police have also intensified enforcement of restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). On November 1, between 0000 hours and 2000 hours, police checked 7,279 vehicles, turned back 714, and impounded 38.
The Delhi Traffic Police held a coordination meeting with officials from neighbouring districts on Sunday to ensure effective implementation of restrictions. The department is using social media, radio, and information boards at borders to create public awareness.
The Delhi High Court declined on Monday to stay the restriction of turning back non-Delhi pre-BS-VI vehicles at the city's borders.
