Bihar police officer kills man, injures three after being cornered by villagers

Assistant Sub-Inspector Chandramohan Singh is absconding after allegedly firing his service pistol at residents in Madhubani district.

An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) allegedly killed a 50-year-old man and injured three others after being surrounded by villagers in Balirajgarh village, according to The Indian Express and The Hawk. The incident occurred around 1 am on Tuesday in the Babubarhi police station area of Madhubani district.

The deceased, identified as Ashok Yadav, died during treatment at Sadar Hospital. The three injured individuals, identified as Dhanik Lal Yadav, Phulo Devi, and Vijendra Yadav, are undergoing medical care for injuries to their leg, waist, and neck.

Madhubani Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Yogendra Kumar said the ASI, Chandramohan Singh, allegedly fired three to four rounds from his service pistol to protect himself while attempting to escape. The officer had reportedly been visiting a woman's house frequently and was allegedly involved in an illicit relationship with her.

The ASI, who was posted at a local police picket, has been suspended with immediate effect. SSP Kumar stated that a murder case is being registered and that the officer will be dismissed from service. Five special teams have been formed to track the absconding officer, and a reward of Rs 25,000 has been announced for information leading to his arrest.

The officer's previous record is under scrutiny, as he was allegedly involved in a firing incident in Benipatti a few months ago that resulted in the death of a motorcyclist.
