Bihar: ASI kills man, injures three after being cornered by villagers
The accused officer fled the scene in Madhubani district after allegedly firing his service pistol from inside a woman's house.
An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) allegedly killed a 50-year-old man and injured three others after being surrounded by villagers in Balirajgarh village, Madhubani district, early Tuesday. The accused, identified as ASI Chandramohan Singh, was posted at a police picket in the area and fled the scene following the incident, according to reports by The Indian Express and Telangana Today.
The shooting occurred around 1 am when villagers reportedly caught the officer inside a woman's residence. Madhubani Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Yogendra Kumar said the ASI allegedly fired between three and four rounds from his service weapon while attempting to escape after being locked in a room.
The deceased has been identified as Ashok Yadav. The three injured individuals are Dhanik Lal Yadav, Phulo Devi, and Vijendra Yadav. They were taken to Sadar Hospital for treatment, with Phulo Devi reported to be in critical condition.
SSP Kumar stated the officer had been frequently visiting the house due to an alleged illicit relationship with a woman. Local residents claimed the ASI entered the house with inappropriate intentions, leading a neighbour to lock the door and raise an alarm.
The ASI has been suspended with immediate effect, and police are registering a murder case at Babubarhi police station. Five special teams have been formed to track the absconding officer, and a reward of Rs 25,000 has been announced for information leading to his arrest.
