ISRO launches NVS-03 satellite via GSLV-F18 mission
The successful launch aims to support the NavIC programme after recent launch failures involving PSLV rockets.
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched the GSLV-F18 mission to place the NVS-03 satellite into orbit, according to The Hindu.
The mission marks the second successful launch for the agency in 2026, following 18 months of constraints caused by two PSLV rocket launch failures.
If the NVS-03 satellite is manoeuvred into its intended orbital slot and commissioned, it will assist the Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC) programme.
The NavIC programme has lacked at least one functional satellite for the previous six months, affecting its ability to provide standalone positioning services over the Indian subcontinent.
The NVS-03 is a second-generation satellite featuring at least one indigenously made atomic clock, following recommendations from the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science and Technology.
The government may allocate approximately ₹17,000 crore in the 2027-28 Union Budget for the Department of Space, compared to ₹13,705.6 crore in 2026-27, to focus on manufacturing launch vehicles, recruitment, and replacing satellites.
