ISRO researcher Devadas Menon named among world's top 2 per cent scientists

Devadas Menon is the only Indian researcher included in the Communication and Media Studies subfield of the Stanford University-Elsevier list.

Devadas Menon, a researcher at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), has been included in the 2026 Stanford University-Elsevier World’s Top 2% Scientists list for the second consecutive year, according to The Hindu.

Menon, who is from Chikkaballapur, works at ISRO’s Development and Educational Communication Unit (DECU) in Ahmedabad. He holds a Master’s degree in Electronic Media from Bangalore University and previously taught at the Central University of Tamil Nadu.

His research examines how digital media users in India behave, specifically looking at cyberpsychology. His studies cover the psychological drivers behind using short-form video platforms like Instagram Reels, viewing habits on OTT platforms, and the use of conversational artificial intelligence.

Menon aims to adjust media and technology models created in Western contexts to fit Indian social and cultural environments. His upcoming research interests involve the impact of deepfakes, algorithmic influence, and generative AI.

The Stanford-Elsevier list uses Scopus data and standardised bibliometric indicators to measure research impact. Menon holds a global rank of 56,727 and a rank of 790 in his specific subfield.
