India wins maiden Women's World Cup title by beating South Africa

Harmanpreet Kaur led India to a 52-run victory over South Africa in the final at Navi Mumbai.

India won its first Women's World Cup title on November 2, 2025, defeating South Africa by 52 runs at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, according to the Times of India.

Shafali Verma, a replacement player for Pratika Rawal, scored 87 runs off 78 balls to help India post 298 for 7. Verma also took two wickets during the South African chase.

Off-spinner Deepti Sharma scored a half-century at a run-a-ball and took five wickets to restrict South Africa. The South African captain Laura Wolvaardt scored 101 runs off 98 balls before being caught by Amanjot Kaur.

South Africa won the toss, but rain delayed the match by two hours and the expected dew did not arrive. This allowed Indian spinners Deepti Sharma and Shree Charani to utilise a pitch that offered turn.

Nadine de Klerk kept the chase alive for South Africa, but her dismissal via a catch by Harmanpreet Kaur sealed the win. South Africa was bowled out for 246 in the 46th over.

The victory followed an Indian semi-final win against Australia at the same venue. India had previously suffered three consecutive defeats during the league stage of the tournament.
