Gautam Gambhir tells players to stay fit during T20I break
The India head coach urged the squad to prepare for the Sri Lanka series following a 3-2 series victory over New Zealand.
India head coach Gautam Gambhir has advised his players to maintain their physical fitness and continue training during a month-long hiatus from T20I cricket. The instruction came after India secured a 3-2 series win against New Zealand, according to the Times of India.
India took an unassailable lead by winning the first three matches of the five-match series, though New Zealand won the final two games on their home ground. The series also saw Ishan Kishan miss two matches due to injury, while bowlers Mayank Yadav and Prince Yadav made their first appearances in New Zealand.
Addressing the dressing room after the fifth T20I, Gambhir said the players should be proud of their achievement given the limited preparation time and unfamiliar conditions. He noted that the team had the responsibility to set the tone for the remainder of the tour.
The coach told the squad that the ODI and Test teams must now build on the performance of the T20I side. He also warned against complacency, stating that the team must continue to grow and cannot take any opposition lightly.
The T20I squad will next face Sri Lanka in a three-match home series in December. India will now focus on their upcoming ODI and Test assignments against New Zealand.
