Rayagada schools to close on November 3 and 4 for Cyclone Murasu
The district administration ordered the closure of all educational institutions as a precaution against the predicted severe cyclonic storm.
The Rayagada district administration has announced that all schools in the district will remain closed on November 3 and 4, 2026, due to the severe cyclonic storm Murasu, according to Kalinga TV.
The order, issued by the District Education Office on November 2, covers all primary, upper primary, secondary, and higher secondary institutions. This includes schools under the School and Mass Education (S&ME) and ST & SC Development (SSD) departments, as well as Kendriya Vidyalayas, Odisha Adarsha Vidyalayas (OAVs), and private or government-aided schools.
The closure applies to all levels from Shishu Vatika to Class XII. The decision follows weather forecasts predicting severe cyclonic conditions in the area.
While classes are suspended, school buildings must be available to serve as cyclone shelters. Headmasters and headmistresses have been told to provide classroom keys to local teachers or specific individuals to allow for emergency use.
All teachers and school heads must keep their mobile phones on and stay ready to respond to emergency calls. Block Education Officers (BEOs) have been instructed to ensure these safety directives are strictly followed.
