Andhra Pradesh CM orders precautions in Bapatla for Cyclone Murasu
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu reviewed preparedness as the severe cyclonic storm approaches the coast.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has instructed officials to implement safety measures to protect lives and property in Bapatla district due to Cyclone Murasu, according to The Hindu. The Chief Minister reviewed administrative readiness through a video conference on Monday, November 2, 2026, which included Bapatla Collector Vinod Kumar V.
The storm, which has intensified into a severe cyclonic storm, is expected to make landfall near Ongole on November 3. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that wind speeds could reach 100–110 kmph, with gusts up to 120 kmph.
Mr. Naidu warned that Bapatla might face significant impact because heavy floodwater is expected to flow through irrigation canals from upstream districts, including Guntur, Palnadu, Prakasam, and Markapuram. He directed officials to inspect canal bunds, evacuate residents from low-lying areas, and set up rehabilitation centres.
Collector Vinod Kumar V said the administration has a comprehensive plan and has identified 74 vulnerable locations, such as roads and tank bunds. He noted that 1,000 electricity poles and machinery are ready, and 50 personnel have been sent to the Godavari districts to assist with power restoration.
All schools and colleges in Bapatla district will remain closed on November 2 and 3 due to the forecast of extremely heavy rainfall. The Chief Minister also said a special officer will be appointed for the Bapatla district.
