Hiralal was shot in both legs after allegedly firing at a police team in Hamirpur district on Monday.
A man accused of raping and murdering a three-year-old girl was injured in a police encounter in Uttar Pradesh's Hamirpur district on Monday, according to The Hawk. The accused, identified as Hiralal, was shot in both legs after he allegedly used an illegal country-made pistol to fire at a police team.
The incident occurred when officials took Hiralal to the crime scene to assist with the collection of evidence. Police retaliated, causing the injuries. He was moved from a Community Health Centre to a district hospital for medical treatment.
The investigation began after the girl's body was discovered in a field under the Muskara police station limits on November 1. The child's father had approached the police after becoming suspicious of Hiralal, who allegedly joined the search for the missing girl.
Additional Superintendent of Police Arvind Kumar confirmed that three teams were formed to solve the case and that Hiralal was arrested. Kumar stated that the accused opened fire on the police team while being taken to the spot to collect evidence.
Police said further investigation into the case is currently underway.
