Punjab Congress leaders meet Kharge and Rahul Gandhi to discuss 2027 polls

The meeting in New Delhi focused on election strategy, organisational strength, and addressing factionalism ahead of a major rally in Sangrur.

Senior Punjab Congress leaders met party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi on Saturday. According to The Indian Express, the meeting at Indira Bhawan focused on preparations for the 2027 Assembly elections, strengthening the state organisation, and managing factionalism.

The discussions covered the political climate in Punjab, grassroots mobilisation, and coordination between senior leaders. Attendees included Punjab unit chief Pargat Singh, former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi, and Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa, alongside Congress general secretary (organisation) K C Venugopal and Punjab in-charge Sachin Pilot.

The huddle precedes the 'Insaaf rally' scheduled for November 4 in Sangrur, where the party aims to gather one lakh workers. Punjab Congress working president Raj Kumar Verka stated that the party has finished its preliminary preparations and is ready to begin its campaign, noting that candidates will be named shortly.

Mallikarjun Kharge stated on X that Punjab is seeking a transformative beginning and accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of failed governance and corruption. K C Venugopal also criticised the AAP government regarding law and order and the drug menace, expressing confidence that voters will grant Congress a majority in 2027.

The meeting takes place as political activity increases before the Assembly elections, which are expected in February-March 2027. On Saturday, the ruling AAP released its first list of 40 candidates.
