Newborn girl's body found in school bag in Madhya Pradesh

The body of a newborn girl with her umbilical cord still attached was discovered in an agricultural field in Sagar district on Sunday.

The body of a newborn girl was discovered inside a school bag in an agricultural field near Tehra-Tehri village in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district on Sunday, according to The Times of India.

Farm owner Shankar Sharma spotted the bag on his land near Ramjhariya temple and called villagers to assist him in opening it. The group used a wooden stick to open the bag and found the infant inside.

Sharma notified the village kotwar, who then alerted the Rahatgarh police. A police team arrived at the location to conduct an inquest and moved the body to a hospital for a postmortem examination.

During a preliminary examination, police noted that the umbilical cord remained attached to the newborn. This has led to suspicions that the baby was abandoned shortly after birth before being left in the field.
