Harsh Dubey takes nine wickets in Ranji Trophy innings for Vidarbha

The left-arm spinner's record-breaking performance occurred hours before his selection for the ACC Men's Rising Stars Asia Cup.

Left-arm spinner Harsh Dubey claimed nine wickets for 53 runs to bowl Madhya Pradesh out for 209 on Monday, according to The Times of India. The performance took place during an Elite Group A encounter at the VCA Stadium in Jamtha.

Dubey became the first Vidarbha bowler to take nine wickets in a single innings in the tournament's history. He bettered the previous state record of 8/39 held by Arun Ogiral from the 1967-68 season. He is the 30th bowler to achieve nine or more wickets in a Ranji Trophy innings.

After Madhya Pradesh elected to bat, Nachiket Bhute dismissed opener Yash Dubey. Dubey then reduced the opposition to 64/5 by the 29th over. Despite a 72-run partnership between Atharva Mahajan and Saransh Jain, Dubey dismantled the lower order to finish with nine wickets.

Bhute took the remaining wicket.

The record-breaking spell came hours before the BCCI named the 15-member India squad for the ACC Men's Rising Stars Asia Cup. The tournament is scheduled to be held in Doha from November 19 to 29. The squad is led by Tilak Varma, with Rajat Patidar as vice-captain.

Vidarbha ended the day at 56/4 in 23 overs, trailing Madhya Pradesh by 153 runs. Kumar Kartikeya took three wickets for Madhya Pradesh, while Avesh Khan took one.
