NDRF sends three Tamil Nadu teams to Andhra Pradesh for Murasu relief

Three National Disaster Response Force teams have been moved to Andhra Pradesh to lead rescue operations as Cyclone Murasu approaches landfall.

Three teams from the 4th battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been sent from Tamil Nadu to Andhra Pradesh to lead rescue and relief efforts following Cyclone Murasu, according to The News Mill and ANI.

The teams, which are based at Nagarikuppam near Arakkonam in the Ranipet district, departed to respond to the disaster.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the storm grew into a severe cyclonic storm over the west-central and southwest Bay of Bengal. It is expected to hit the south Andhra Pradesh coast between midnight on November 2 and the early morning of November 3.

The IMD stated the storm is moving northwest at 20 kmph and is likely to make landfall between Nellore and Narsapur, near Ongole. The system is expected to bring sustained winds of 100–110 km/h and gusts reaching 120 km/h.

In Rayagada, Additional District Magistrate (General) Ravindranath Kahanra said the administration has deployed 11 fire station teams and heavy machinery to strategic locations. The district is under a yellow warning until November 2, moving to an orange warning for November 3 and 4.

Kahanra noted that JCBs, excavators, and Hydra cranes have been placed at Gumma Ghati and Mukundpur Ghati to clear National Highway 326 if it becomes blocked.
