Cyclone Murasu likely to hit Andhra Pradesh coast on Tuesday, says IMD

The India Meteorological Department predicts a cyclonic storm will reach the coast on November 3, following the recent Cyclone Arnab.

A depression in the Bay of Bengal is expected to develop into a cyclonic storm named Murasu, which is forecast to reach the Andhra Pradesh coast on Tuesday morning, November 3, according to Business Standard.

IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra stated that the cyclone could have wind speeds between 80 and 90 kmph, with gusts reaching 100 kmph.

The department has issued a warning for fishermen to stay away from the sea until at least Wednesday afternoon. Mohapatra advised those currently at sea to head back to harbour, noting that parts of the Bay of Bengal will be devastating for boats and small ships.

Heavy rainfall is expected in Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema on November 2 and 3, with some areas seeing extremely heavy downpours. Southern Odisha is also expected to experience heavy rain on November 3 and 4.

Despite these weather events, the IMD maintains a drier-than-usual outlook for November 2026. Most of the country is expected to see a rainfall deficit, while South Peninsular India may receive below 77 per cent of the long-period average.
