Nandini milk and curd prices rise across Karnataka
The Karnataka Milk Federation issued a revised price order for Nandini products following a state Cabinet decision.
Nandini milk and curd prices increased across Karnataka from November 1, according to a report by Urban Acres. The Karnataka Milk Federation issued a revised price order following a decision by the state Cabinet.
The price of a half-litre pack of Nandini curd rose from ₹28 to ₹34, while the one-litre pack increased from ₹54 to ₹68. While the Cabinet decision covers both milk and curd, the federation's order did not specify revised prices for individual milk packs.
The federation said the milk price revision would go directly to dairy farmers. The move is expected to provide an additional annual income of between ₹1,850 crore and ₹2,100 crore to dairy farming families across the state.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra said on Saturday that the party will launch statewide protests against the hike. Speaking in Davanagere, Vijayendra accused the Congress-led government of burdening people with price increases.
Vijayendra alleged that the government had increased prices for petrol, liquor, milk, and stamp duty. He stated that while the milk price increase benefits farmers, the government should have increased subsidies to bear the cost instead of passing it to consumers.
The BJP leader also claimed that approximately Rs 1,700 crore in subsidies payable to milk producers remains pending.
