Yaduveer Wadiyar seeks Union approval for Mysuru Science Centre
The Mysuru-Kodagu MP has requested the Union Minister for Culture to expedite the project under the SPoCS scheme.
Mysuru-Kodagu MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar has requested Union Minister for Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat to speed up the approval process for a proposed Science Centre in Mysuru, according to The Hindu.
The MP wrote to the Union Minister seeking clearance for a Category-II, Model-B Science Centre under the Scheme for Promotion of Culture of Science (SPoCS). He noted that Mysuru is a suitable site because of the University of Mysore and institutions such as CFTRI and DFRL.
The University of Mysore has provided seven acres of land for the project and signed a pact with the Karnataka Science and Technology Promotion Society (KSTePS). The State government has also pledged to supply the required infrastructure according to the scheme's rules.
A revised Detailed Project Report (DPR) was sent on January 5, 2026, after removing the 3D theatre and flight simulator because they were not covered by SPoCS guidelines and required extra consultancy fees.
The revised proposal is currently with the Project Appraisal Committee (PAC) for review. Mr. Yaduveer said the facility would improve science education and interactive learning for students in Mysuru and nearby districts.
The MP stated that the early establishment of the centre would improve Mysuru's status regarding scientific advancement, innovation, and education.
