Minor survivor identifies granite businessman Veeramani in prison parade
The Greater Chennai Police are investigating eight cases under the POCSO Act involving the businessman and several associates.
A minor survivor identified granite businessman R Veeramani during an identification parade held at Puzhal Central Prison last week, according to The Indian Express.
The identification occurred as the Greater Chennai Police expanded their investigation into eight cases registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act involving Veeramani and his associates.
Police arrested a security guard, Seenu, also known as Srinivasan, on Sunday in connection with two cases. Investigators alleged that Srinivasan, who worked at Veeramani’s residence, knew children were being brought to the property but did not inform authorities.
The arrest of the security guard brings the total number of people in custody to nine. Previous detainees include Shanthi, Mahendra Simhan, Lazar, Ganesan, Babu, Parthiban, and Sakthivel.
Investigators also took action against K Prakash, the son of Southern Railway union leader N Kanniah, who allegedly assisted Veeramani in hiding his offences. Police said Prakash has fled abroad, and they are working to revoke his passport and secure his return.
A Special Investigation Team is currently pursuing the probe. Police stated they are expediting the investigation and aim to file final reports in court this week.
