Actor Manoj Bajpayee says dissent must be respected in a democracy

During a conversation with Sanjay Sharma, the actor emphasised that individuals should have the freedom to express opinions and personal convictions.

Actor Manoj Bajpayee recently stated that democracy must allow every individual, including actors and non-actors, the freedom to express opinions and register dissent, according to Telangana Today.

Speaking during a conversation with filmmaker and journalist Sanjay Sharma in Mumbai, the Satya actor said a healthy society must make room for different perspectives. He added that disagreements over ideas should not automatically lead to personal hostility.

Bajpayee was asked if disagreeing with someone's political or social opinions justified dismissing their artistic achievements and personality. He emphasised the importance of maintaining respect despite such disagreements.

During the discussion, Bajpayee expressed profound admiration for veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah. He said his respect for Shah ran so deep that he would accept it even if Shah were to slap him.

The conversation also covered why Bollywood stars often remain silent on issues affecting ordinary people. Bajpayee responded to this by asking why those who remain silent on people's issues are considered stars.

The Family Man actor will next appear in Ram Gopal Varma's horror comedy Police Station Mein Bhoot, co-starring Genelia Deshmukh.
