Longest Ukraine war truce ends in Kherson after Russia refuses extension

The ceasefire, brokered by US First Lady Melania Trump, allowed a humanitarian mission to the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky.

The longest ceasefire of the Ukraine war, which was limited to the eastern Kherson region, concluded on Sunday, according to the Hindustan Times. Ukraine's Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, stated that the truce, which lasted from October 27 to November 1, has ended after Russia declined an extension.

The pause in fighting was brokered by US First Lady Melania Trump and began early Tuesday. Lubinets described the temporary arrangement as an important step in joint humanitarian efforts with Russia.

A Ukrainian military officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Russian forces had used the calm to move ammunition, gather intelligence via drones, and amass new troops across the Dnipro river. Kherson regional governor Oleksandr Prokudin advised local residents to remain vigilant and respond to warnings of Russian attacks once the ceasefire ended.

Elsewhere on Sunday, Russia claimed a drone hit an industrial enterprise east of Moscow. Meanwhile, Ukrainian media reported that Kyiv attacked the Kstovo oil refinery, which is one of Russia's largest producers of lubricants and fuel.

Ukraine's energy ministry reported power outages across the country, including in Kyiv, following Russian strikes on energy infrastructure. Russian-installed authorities said Ukrainian strikes killed five people in Russian-occupied Ukraine between late Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
