Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday inaugurated 1,416 residential flats for migrant Kashmiri Pandit PM Package employees at Zewan, Kakan Maran in Budgam, and Kulangam Bagh in Kupwara. According to The New Indian Express, Sinha stated that Kashmir is incomplete without Kashmiri Pandits and that their dignified return is essential to restoring the region's historical heritage and human dignity.
The inauguration at Zewan, on the outskirts of Srinagar, included 936 flats constructed across 39 blocks. The LG also inaugurated residential complexes at Kakan Maran and Kulangam Bagh through virtual mode.
The transit accommodation project includes 6,000 flats across 342 blocks at 20 locations in 10 districts of the Valley. Of the sanctioned flats, construction of over 5,200 is complete and over 3,800 have been allotted.
Sushil Raina, a PM Package employee from Kupwara allotted a flat at Zewan, said the development would allow families to join employees in the Valley. He said it was the responsibility of the Muslim community, alongside the central and J&K governments, to create a conducive atmosphere for their return.
Vicky Kaav, another PM Package employee, said the accommodation would provide relief to employees who have been waiting since 2010. He expressed hope that some would eventually build houses and settle permanently in the Valley.
Police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed around the residential complex at Zewan as part of security arrangements.
