Karnataka textile heritage exhibition opens at Bengaluru NGMA

The 'PAMPA' exhibition showcases handwoven traditions from the 18th century to the present day to mark Karnataka Rajyotsava.

The 'PAMPA – Textiles of Karnataka' exhibition opened on Sunday at the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) in Bengaluru, according to the Deccan Herald. The event coincides with Karnataka Rajyotsava.

Union Minister of Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat inaugurated the exhibition, which is organised by the Abheraj Baldota Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and NGMA. The foundation is marking its 50th anniversary with the display.

Curated by Lavina Baldota, the exhibition features more than 150 items such as artworks, installations, furnishings, accessories, apparel, and sarees. These pieces represent the state's handmade and handwoven textile history from the 18th century onwards.

Notable items on display include an embroidery piece from the 18th century, a mirror-work canopy by Lambadi artisans, and sarees made by Melkote master weavers Narayanappa and Kamalamma. The collection also features a Gaurav Gupta couture garment using Molakalmuru metallic brocades.

Minister Shekhawat also announced that 'India Biennale 26' will take place in Delhi from December 4 to March 21, 2027. He described the event, which covers art, architecture, and design, as a "maha-kumbh of arts" in a press release.

The exhibition was previously shown in Hampi in March 2025. It will be available for the public to view at the NGMA until December 15.
