Karnataka CM asks KMF to reduce Nandini curd prices

Chief Minister D K Shivakumar directed the federation to cut prices following public criticism of a recent hike.

Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Monday asked the Karnataka Co-Operative Milk Producers' Federation Limited (KMF) to reduce the price of Nandini curd, according to the Deccan Herald. The instruction follows a price increase of Rs 14 per kg implemented on November 1.

The price hike saw a 500-gram pouch rise from Rs 28 to Rs 34, while a one-kg pouch increased from Rs 54 to Rs 68. Shivakumar spoke to reporters near the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) in Bengaluru regarding the matter.

Addressing price differences, the Chief Minister said milk with higher fat content has seen a higher increase and stated that officials will provide a full explanation. He noted that the milk price hike would help 11 lakh farmer families.

BAMUL president and D K Suresh said daily milk production in the state is 1.15 crore litres. He claimed the hike will support 25 lakh milk sellers and noted that Tamil Nadu and Amul have also increased prices.

Regarding transport, the Chief Minister said the government would allocate special grants to transport corporations to manage diesel expenses. He added that the Transport Department has been directed to make the final decision regarding fare hikes.
