Cyclone Murasu to hit south Andhra Pradesh coast by November 3
Heavy rain warnings have been issued for several Telangana districts as the severe cyclonic storm approaches landfall.
Cyclone Murasu is expected to make landfall on the south Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Narsapur between late November 2 and early November 3, according to reports by The News Mill and Urban Acres. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated the system is likely to cross the coast as a severe cyclonic storm with wind speeds of 100–110 kmph and gusts reaching 120 kmph.
The IMD noted the storm was moving northwest at 20 kmph as of 2.30 am IST on November 2. The system was located approximately 290 km east-southeast of Nellore and 260 km east-northeast of Chennai.
In Telangana, the IMD Hyderabad office said rain linked to the cyclone could begin on November 1, with heavier conditions expected by the middle of the week. A heavy rain warning has been issued for Monday and Tuesday for eastern and southern districts, including Khammam, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mahabubabad, Suryapet, Nalgonda and Yadadri Bhuvanagiri.
The Hyderabad capital region, including Medchal-Malkajgiri and Rangareddy districts, is forecast to see overcast conditions and intermittent light to moderate rain. Rainy conditions in Telangana are expected to taper off on Wednesday as the system weakens into a depression.
In Rayagada, Additional District Magistrate (General) Ravindranath Kahanra said the district was under a yellow warning until November 2, with an orange warning in place for November 3 and 4. The administration has deployed fire station teams and heavy machinery to strategic points to manage emergency responses.
