Iran warns of costly response to potential US and Israeli strikes

Military officials claim new weapons and asymmetric tactics are ready if conflict restarts following US midterm elections.

Iran's military has warned that any renewed all-out war with the United States and Israel would be longer and more expensive than expected, according to Al Jazeera. The warning comes amid indications that the conflict, which began on February 28, could restart after the US midterm elections.

Former senior IRGC commander Hossein Kanani Moghaddam said the Iranian armed forces are in better operational shape than in previous conflicts. He stated that the range, accuracy, and warheads of missiles have improved, while drone capabilities have increased.

Army spokesman Mohammad Akraminia said commanders would use asymmetric warfare tactics to offset the superiority of US military equipment. He noted that new equipment and renovated weaponry were added during a brief ceasefire following a June memorandum of understanding between Iran and the US.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) spokesman Hossein Mohebbi said on Sunday evening that the force is 100 per cent ready to confront another attack. He described the goal of reaching maximum deterrence as a near-future objective.

President Donald Trump said on Sunday that the war with Iran would conclude very soon, suggesting Tehran must agree to a deal to avoid further action. Meanwhile, commanders from various military branches recently met Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei to discuss potential responses to future attacks.
