The team has moved into the top six, overtaking Sri Lanka, England and the West Indies in the latest standings.
Afghanistan have reached sixth place in the latest ICC Men's ODI Team Rankings, according to the Times of India. This marks the first time the team has broken into the top six in the 50-over format.
The Afghan side has moved ahead of Sri Lanka, England and the West Indies in the rankings. They had previously moved ahead of Bangladesh, England and the West Indies.
Since making their ODI debut in 2009, Afghanistan have won 96 of their 191 matches. The team currently holds a win-loss ratio of 1.09.
The team's recent form includes a 4-0 away series victory over Ireland and an unbeaten record in a tri-series involving Zimbabwe and Bangladesh. In T20Is, they recently completed a 3-0 series whitewash against Zimbabwe, finishing with a seven-wicket victory in Sharjah on Sunday.
Afghanistan will now focus on the longest format of the game. They are scheduled to play a two-match Test series against Zimbabwe next.
