CAIT asks Delhi LG to designate protest sites in outer Delhi

The Confederation of All India Traders seeks specific locations for demonstrations to prevent business disruptions in the capital's commercial zones.

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has requested Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu to notify specific areas in outer Delhi for political demonstrations and protests, according to The News Mill.

The organisation stated that ongoing protests and political activities have caused disruptions in the city for more than a month. Delhi serves as a major trading hub with an average daily trade value of approximately Rs 2,200 crore.

CAIT reported that business interruptions occurred on nearly 14 days during the past month. The group noted that traffic obstructions and demonstrations have affected wholesale markets, retail businesses, street vendors, transport services, and hotels.

CAIT National President BC Bhartia said the trading community is deeply concerned about the situation. He stated that while the right to peaceful protest is recognised, disrupting the livelihoods of thousands of traders is not justifiable.

Bhartia added that the interests of the economy and the livelihoods of millions of families must be protected. He remarked that depriving others of their livelihood due to a protest is unacceptable.

A significant meeting of Delhi trade associations and leaders will convene after Diwali to discuss the issue and decide on future actions, Bhartia said.
