Ambuja Cements plans Rs 14,500 crore expansion to add 30 MTPA capacity

The Adani Group company aims to increase its total cement capacity to 155 MTPA by FY30 through new projects across India.

Ambuja Cements Limited plans to invest approximately Rs 14,500 crore to increase its cement capacity by about 30 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), according to The Tribune. This expansion aims to strengthen the company's manufacturing presence in northern, western, and eastern India.

The proposed programme is intended to raise the total capacity from the current 113.5 MTPA to 155 MTPA by FY30. The company intends to add 15.5 MTPA of grinding capacity in the West Cluster, 11.6 MTPA in the East Cluster, and 2.9 MTPA in the North Cluster.

In the eastern region, new capacities are planned for Rangia and Hojai in Assam, Godda in Jharkhand, and Muzaffarpur in Bihar. The western expansion includes sites in Gujarat at Mundra and Hazira, and in Maharashtra at Raigad, Kalyan, Dahanu, and Amravati. The northern expansion involves Dadri Line 2 in Uttar Pradesh.

Vinod Bahety, CEO of Cement Business at Adani Group, said the expansion focuses on improving the manufacturing network and placing production facilities near high-growth markets. He stated that the move would help improve efficiencies, lower logistics costs, and increase competitiveness.

The company also aims to reach a manufacturing cost of Rs 4,000 per tonne by FY28. To support the grinding capacity, the company will add clinker capacity at Umrangso in Assam, Maratha in Maharashtra, and Mundra in Gujarat.

Ambuja expects its total capacity to reach 119 MTPA by March 2027. This follows the addition of 4.6 MTPA during the first half of FY27, with another 5.6 MTPA expected to be commissioned or ramped up during the second half of FY27.
