Karnataka issues final notifications to acquire land for Bidadi township

The state government has issued final notifications for 1,895 acres in Byramangala and Kanchugaranahalli villages.

The Karnataka government has issued final notifications to acquire approximately 1,895 acres of land in Byramangala and Kanchugaranahalli villages for the proposed Bidadi Integrated Township, according to the Deccan Herald.

The latest notifications cover 1,142 acres in Byramangala and 753 acres in Kanchugaranahalli. This completes the final notification process for all nine villages identified for the project, which cover a total of 7,343 acres.

The project is estimated to cost Rs 22,000 crore and is based on a 'work-live-play' concept. A senior Greater Bengaluru Development Authority (GBRDA) official said that about Rs 1,800 crore has been paid to approximately 1,480 farmers who volunteered for compensation.

The GBRDA official added that a private agency has been hired to create the development plan, after which tenders for civil works will be floated. The government previously issued preliminary notifications for 7,481 acres in March last year.

Yashwant T, state general secretary of the Karnataka Pranta Raitha Sangha (KPRS), said Chief Minister D K Shivakumar had publicly promised to pause the project until a four-member committee submitted its report. Yashwant T claimed the government betrayed the trust of the people by issuing these notifications without the committee's recommendations.

A section of landowners has been protesting the acquisition for 570 days.
