Bapatla administration prepares for Cyclone Murasu

District Collector Dr. Vinod Kumar V. has directed officials to take precautionary measures to prevent loss of life and property.

The Bapatla district administration has increased preparedness to tackle Cyclone Murasu, as heavy rainfall is expected across the district, according to The Hindu.

District Collector Dr. Vinod Kumar V. said during a press conference at the Chirala Municipal Office on Sunday that the cyclone is likely to cross the coast between Nellore and Ongole between Monday night and the early hours of Tuesday.

Rainfall of 100 mm to 120 mm is expected in Chirala and mandals adjoining the erstwhile Prakasam district, with heavy rain likely across the district up to Repalle.

The Collector noted that rainwater from Guntur, Palnadu, Markapuram and Prakasam regions would flow through drains and canals in Bapatla before reaching the sea, increasing pressure on the drainage network.

Dr. Vinod Kumar V. cautioned that residents and the administration should remain vigilant for the next four to five days, in addition to the two days of heavy rainfall.

Officials are strengthening vulnerable stretches of drains and canals with sandbags and using machinery to remove obstructions near bridges and crossings to ensure rainwater flows smoothly.
