Delhi roads and Ramlila Maidan marked by litter and graffiti after rally
Protesters left spray-painted slogans and waste across Central Delhi following the INDIA bloc rally on Sunday.
Central Delhi's roads and walls were marked by graffiti and litter following the INDIA bloc rally on Sunday, November 1, 2026, according to The Hindu. Spray-painted slogans such as “Vote chor, gaddi chor”, “Rollback SIR”, and “Illegal PM” were found along Minto Road, alongside discarded plastic bottles and torn placards.
The Hindu reported that stretches of Jawaharlal Nehru Marg and Minto Road were littered with food wrappers, posters, and empty water bottles. On central dividers, messages including “Modi must go” and “Ban RSS” were spray-painted. Waste collectors were seen gathering recyclable materials from the area.
At Ramlila Maidan, the ground was muddy and slippery due to rain on October 29 and 30. Protesters navigated waterlogged patches and muddy stretches, with some using placards under their feet to avoid sinking into the soft ground.
The rally was organised to protest alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, as reported by Hindustan Times. Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi had appealed for people to join the protest.
The INDIA bloc expected a turnout of up to 10 lakh people, while Delhi Police expected around 50,000, according to the Deccan Chronicle. Senior leaders including Sonia Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, and Mamata Banerjee participated in the mobilisation.
