Ranbir Kapoor compares Pushpaka Vimana to Elon Musk's flying car
The actor remarked that India had flying cars 5,000 years ago during a promotional interview for the film Ramayana.
Actor Ranbir Kapoor said that India had flying cars 5,000 years ago while comparing the mythical Pushpaka Vimana to a recent invention by Elon Musk. Kapoor made the remark during a special interview for the show Star Talks, alongside director Nitesh Tiwari and co-stars Yash, Rakul Preet Singh, and Ravi Dubey, according to reports by Hindustan Times, India Today, and The Times of India.
The comparison followed a discussion about the fantastical elements and weapons in the Ramayana. Kapoor, who plays Lord Rama in the upcoming film, noted that Musk recently invented a flying car but suggested India achieved it five millennia ago. The discussion also highlighted the visual effects work by the studio DNEG.
Director Nitesh Tiwari stated that it took nearly two years to arrive at the final design for the Pushpaka Vimana. He explained that the team had to go through several iterations to ensure the design fit the existing choreography of a fight scene involving Ravana and Jatayu.
The Pushpaka Vimana is described in Hindu mythology as a self-moving aerial chariot or flying palace created by the celestial architect Vishwakarma for Lord Brahma. It was later given to Kubera, the god of wealth, before being taken by Ravana.
The two-part cinematic adaptation of Ramayana is produced by Namit Malhotra and Yash, with music by AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer. The first part is scheduled to release in theatres on November 5 for Diwali.
The actor's comments come as Tesla's next-generation Roadster was recently unveiled in Waco, Texas, on October 15. Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the supercar is expected to enter production in 2028.
