Pat Cummins blames Australian batting after Cape Town Test loss

Australia lost the third Test by 176 runs, resulting in a 2-1 series defeat to South Africa.

Australia lost the third and final Test against South Africa by 176 runs at Cape Town on Saturday, according to the Hindustan Times. The defeat meant South Africa won the series 2-1.

Chasing 288 runs on the final day, Australia was bowled out for 111. Kagiso Rabada removed the top order, while spinner Simon Harmer took six of the remaining seven wickets.

Australian captain Pat Cummins said his batters let the team down despite the day-five pitch. He stated there were runs to be scored and many balls to face, noting that some decisions were poor.

Cummins, who won the toss and elected to bowl, said the decision was based on the belief that the opening-day pitch would offer more assistance than it did. He said the team thought they could take 10 wickets on the first day.

The captain acknowledged that questions regarding personnel and style would be addressed internally. He said the team would work to improve to return to the number one ranking.

Australia had previously bowled the hosts out for 329 and held a 100-run lead before the second-innings batting performance.
