Odisha deploys five engineers to Brahmapur for cyclone relief work

The Housing and Urban Development Department sent additional engineers to reinforce restoration efforts following Cyclone Arnab.

The Odisha Housing and Urban Development Department has deployed five additional engineers to the Brahmapur Municipal Corporation to support relief and restoration efforts following Cyclone Arnab, according to Sambad English.

The engineers, who were drawn from various Urban Local Bodies, are tasked with expediting flood management and emergency response activities in the city. The deployed personnel include Assistant Engineer Ajay Kumar Jani from Athgada NAC, Junior Engineer Rashmi Ranjan Behera from KMC, Assistant Engineer Aditya Mishra from Gunupur Municipality, Junior Engineer Biswaranjan Parida from Puri Municipal Corporation, and Junior Engineer Bhavani Shankar Behera from Chatrapur Municipality.

The deployment comes as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts Cyclone Murasu to bring fresh rain and strong winds to parts of Odisha. IMD Bhubaneswar director Manorama Mohanty said Odisha is likely to experience a relatively lower impact because the projected path lies further south towards Andhra Pradesh.

The IMD has issued a yellow warning for heavy rain in Ganjam and Gajapati districts for Monday, with an orange warning for heavy to very heavy rain in Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri on Tuesday.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi reviewed the situation on Saturday and directed departments to intensify preparations. He ordered the restoration of roads, electricity, and other essential services in areas affected by Arnab on a war footing.
