Andhra Pradesh and Odisha brace for Cyclone Murasu on November 3

The approaching storm is expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds to the east coast following Cyclone Arnab.

Andhra Pradesh and Odisha are preparing for Cyclone Murasu, which formed over the Bay of Bengal, according to The Federal. The system is forecast to make landfall on the morning of Tuesday, November 3, between Narsapur and Nellore.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted sustained wind speeds of 100-110 kmph, with gusts reaching 120 kmph. The storm may intensify further before it hits the coast.

In Andhra Pradesh, a red alert has been issued for Monday, November 2, in the Krishna, Guntur, Bapatla, Prakasam, and Nellore districts. On Tuesday, the red alert will extend to Eluru and Alluri Sitarama Raju districts.

Special Chief Secretary (Energy) K Vijayanand stated the system could become a severe cyclonic storm by November 2. He directed power utilities to protect infrastructure and prepare for rapid repairs if supply is interrupted.

Odisha is also preparing for the storm, with Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari announcing a high alert for the southern region. Authorities have ordered evacuations from hilly areas and low-lying zones.

The states are still recovering from Cyclone Arnab, which caused five deaths in Odisha. In Gidipabali village, 11 people remain missing following a landslide caused by previous rains.
