Karnataka government plans to give official status to Kannada flag
Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said the state will introduce a legal framework to hoist the flag alongside the national flag.
Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said on Sunday that the state government intends to provide official recognition to the red and yellow Kannada flag. Speaking during Karnataka Rajyotsava celebrations in Bengaluru, Shivakumar stated the government aims to create a legal structure so the flag can be flown next to the national flag on government buildings.
According to reports from Deccan Herald, ANI, and Hindustan Times, the Chief Minister plans to raise the matter for discussion during the upcoming legislature session in Belagavi. He noted that while the Cabinet had previously requested recognition from the Union government, that request was not granted.
Shivakumar expressed that having an official state flag would represent the self-respect of Kannadigas, similar to the state anthem. He said the flag conveys the state's culture, peace, and religious harmony.
The winter session of the Legislative Assembly is scheduled to take place at the Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi from November 30 to December 11. The Chief Minister participated in the 71st Rajyotsava event, which marks the formation of the state on November 1.
