Mandya district Minister in charge N. Cheluvarayaswamy said on Sunday that Kannada should grow into a language of technology, science, and knowledge rather than just being spoken at home. Speaking at the 71st Kannada Rajyothsava Day celebrations at Sir M Visvesvaraya Stadium in Mandya, he emphasised the need for the language to encompass employment and artificial intelligence.
According to The Hindu, the Minister noted that Mandya district has the highest proportion of Kannada-speaking people in the State and has contributed significantly to literary and cultural spheres. During the event, 30 achievers were presented with the district level Kannada Rajyothsava award for their contributions to various fields.
Mr. Cheluvarayaswamy stated that 450 acres of land have been identified in the district to distribute sites to approximately 15,000 houseless families. He also mentioned that the government proposes to expand the 'Akka Cafe' initiative, run by women's self help groups, to other taluks in the district.
The Minister revealed that the Mugulnage Sinchana programme, which provides free dental treatment to rural people at Primary Health Centres, has been implemented in Mandya for the first time in the State. He also highlighted revenue department reforms, noting that the district resolved 27,000 disputes and issued 1.72 lakh Pouthi Khatas over the last three-and-a-half years.
Additionally, the Minister said that Aadhaar linking for 18 lakh RTCs and the digitisation of 3.8 crore pages of records have been completed. The event was attended by Mandya Assembly Constituency MLA P. Ravikumar, Deputy Commissioner Kumar, and other officials.
