Ishan Kishan breaks Suryakumar Yadav record in T20I against New Zealand
The batter completed 2,000 T20I runs and set a new Indian record for most runs in a calendar year.
Ishan Kishan scored a half-century in the fifth T20I against New Zealand at Seddon Park in Hamilton on Sunday. The left-handed batter reached 61 runs from 32 balls, including five sixes and five fours.
With this innings, Kishan reached 1,220 runs in 2026, moving past the 1,164 runs Suryakumar Yadav scored in 2022. He is now the seventh Indian to pass the 2,000-run mark in T20Is.
Kishan reached the 2,000-run milestone in his 69th innings. He is the third-fastest Indian to achieve this in terms of balls faced, having used 1,345 deliveries, behind Abhishek Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav.
The 28-year-old joined Shreyas Iyer to rebuild the innings after the early dismissal of Abhishek Sharma by Adam Milne. The pair put on 107 runs for the third wicket.
Iyer scored 50 runs from 23 balls before being dismissed by Adam Milne. Kishan was later caught at deep mid-wicket off the bowling of Blair Tickner.
India finished their innings at 191/8. Naman Dhir contributed 33 runs and Nitish Kumar Reddy added 22 runs.
